  Stephen B. Weinstein, Editor in Chief of JCN, is a Fellow and Manager of Systems Architecture Research in NEC USA's Princeton C&C Research Laboratory, investigates communications software and access networking architecture, personal communications, and multimedia systems and applications.

  He  received his SB, MS, and PhD degrees in EE from M.I.T., the University of Michigan, and U.C. Berkeley respectively.  He is an IEEE Fellow and has been active for many years in the IEEE Communications Society, including serving as Editor in Chief of IEEE Communications Magazine, Director of Publications, President (in 1996-97) and currently as Chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee.  He is a co-founder of the IEEE P1520 Standards Working Group on Programming Interfaces for Networks.  He wrote the book "Getting the Picture:  A Guide to CATV and the New Electronic Media (IEEE Press, 1986) and is co-author of the textbook "Data Communication Principles" (Plenum, 1992).

  Dr. Weinstein is an Honorary Member of the Russian Popov Society in recognition of his contributions to IEEE-Popov Society cooperation.
